No matter what camp we train under and who’s flag we carry, it is certain that the entire BJJ community owes a debt of gratitude for everything Helio Gracie has done for our sport. Without him, we would not be here today. Everyone bow your heads in reverence and respect everything this man has done.
According to Graciemag.com, his last words stated that he carried his family name with nerves of blood. âHe passed the way he always wanted to â- quick and fast,â said an immediate relative, who asked not to be identified.
Gracie is survived by his wife Vera; his sons Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin and Rorion; his daughters Rerika and Ricci, as well as numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Helio Gracie, co-founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Patriach of the Gracie Family, has died today at the age of 95. It is said that Gracie passed in his sleep early Thursday in Itaipaiva, Rio de Janeiro.
